Differences Between Men and Women – Derived from Physical Dissimilarities

Differences Between Men and WomenWe all can see clearly the physical differences between men and women. They are very obvious. No need to list them here.

Although those differences have big impact on relationships between men and women, their effects are not as big as the non-physical ones. In fact, it’s this non-physical differences that can bring unexpected nuances to every relationship.

I believe everyone of you here agree with me that it is those dissimilarities that can make our lives colorful. It can color our lives with the beautiful colors that can’t be found from anywhere else.

Imagine a relationship in which each partner is very similar in every aspect. At first, it might be pleasing to have a partner who understands everything and have the very same interests with us. But eventually, it will be felt dull, predictable and boring.

Yes, differences between men and women can become a blessing if we can manage it harmoniously. It’s those differences that will make our lives worth living.

But if not, then the relationship will become liability for us. Bad relationship always diminishes quality of life. Unless we can mend our relationship timely, it will deteriorate our lives badly, even to the extent of destruction.

To make it easier, let me divide those distinctions between men and women into several groups:

  • Dissimilarities that derived from the physical differences
  • Differences in the way of thinking
  • Differences in the way of communication
  • Dissimilarities because of how men and women raised/nurtured
  • Differences as the results of what society expects from men and women
  • Other differences

This article will only discuss the first dissimilarities: the dissimilarities derived from physical differences. I will write about other groups in different articles.

Differences Derived from Physical Dissimilarities

Save The Marriage

In my opinion, almost all non-physical differences between men and women were resulted from this physical dissimilarities. Some experts, though, insist that those non-physical differences come from different ways society nurtures boys (men) and girls (women).

But parents nurture their boys and girls differently because of this, don’t they? And people and society treat men and women differently because of this, too, don’t they? But to simplify the discussion, I decided to distinguish them instead into several groups as already mentioned before.

Below are some non-physical differences exist between men and women because of their physical dissimilarities:

GenitaliaUnlike men who can “jump in” at once when he is aroused, woman needs more time to make her sexual organs ready to accept penetration. Without it, sexual intercourse could mean nothing to her except discomfort and pain. The solution to this is foreplay so that the woman can catch-up with the man and both of them can enjoy it together.
Body strengthMen are 30% stronger than women, especially in upper body. This makes women intuitively prefer stronger men for protection. And women always look for strong men. But in today’s world, strength doesn’t always mean physical, by the way.
Sensitivity to soundWomen are more sensitive to sound. This is one of the differences between men and women that makes them more capable than men in nurturing others.

Baby crying for instance, while it won’t wake up a man from his deep sleep, most women will be awaken because of it.
PubertyOn average, girls reach puberty two years earlier than their boys. They mature faster than boys, not only physically but also psychologically.
FertilityMen can have children until they are very old. Female’s fertility, on the other hand, decreases nearing the age of 40. And it ends with menopause. This makes many women of that age become very uncertain about herself & future.
Menstruation cycleHormonal changes in women in menstruation period often make them emotionally unstable. Men doesn’t have this. They only get what is called “wet-dream”.

This might be one of the most popular differences between men and women. The term PMS (pre-menstruation syndrome) is very popular in both men and women world.

Different level of hormonesMen have higher level of androgen such as testosterone. Women, on the other hand, have higher level of estrogen. This is why men are more aggressive and more risk-taker than women.
Brain: corpus calossumThe bridge joining the two halves of the brain in women is significantly larger than in men. It makes women able to use both sides of the brain better than men.

This fact alone can explain the cause of many differences between men and women in their way of thinking. It makes women think more globally, capable of linking many facts and memories simultaneously across long-time.

Men, on the other hand, think more compartmentally: focus on one “subject” at a time.

That’s also why women can do better “multitasking” such as cooking and tending a baby while in the same time watching their favorite soap-opera. Men, conversely, will very likely crash a chestnut tree if they try to combine driving with singing.

Brain: inferior-parietal-lobuleThis part of the brain is responsible in mathematical abilities. And men have this part significantly larger than women, especially on the left half of the brain.

This is why men averagely better in maths than women. And the male’s extensive use of left hemisphere of the brain signifies the differences between men and women in their way of thinking.

Brain: speech production and processing areaThe two main areas in brain that are responsible in speech production and processing are larger in women. This explains why women typically excel language-based subjects and language associated thinking.
Brain: limbic systemLimbic system in women typically larger than in men. This gives women better capability to be in touch with their feelings and to express them. This is a significant thing to remember in understanding differences between men and women. And that capability promotes bonding with other women, too.

But the downside of this larger limbic system is: women are more prone to depression especially during times of hormonal changes such as menstrual cycle or childbirth.
