Visit the loveisrespect.org website In 2006 Liz Claiborne Inc. released a survey which revealed shocking levels of teen dating abuse and violence in America. The reports of abuse extended across suburbs and cities, all ethnic groups and regions. Responding to the data, Senators Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) joined Liz Claiborne Inc. in announcing the national distribution of the Love Is Not Abuse Curriculum.

Recognizing the fact that few resources existed to help teens who were experiencing dating violence, the company also collaborated with the National Domestic Violence Hotline to initiate and fund the first national teen dating violence hotline. LoveIsRespect.org: The National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline enabled teens and parents to have a place to go to receive immediate advice and counsel with complete privacy and confidentiality as well as learn how to tap into local resources to obtain the help they needed. In addition, the helpline created a safe, confidential online resource with information on dating and relationship violence as well as online message boards. LoveIsRespect.org: The National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To draw more attention to this silent epidemic, Liz Claiborne Inc. also formed a Teen Task Force comprised of survivors and advocates whose main objective was to raise awareness and educate others about the signs of abuse and ways to prevent it.

Finally, the company commissioned a survey to better understand how to motivate bystanders of all ages in helping to stop domestic violence. The poll revealed that an information gap may have prevented Americans from taking action when they witnessed domestic violence. To raise awareness and educate Americans about this issue, Redbook, Liz Claiborne Inc. and Talkers Magazine organized more than 30 guests to talk with radio hosts across the country about the importance of helping to end domestic violence.
