Liz Claiborne created the second offering in the company's educational booklet series entitled "A Woman's Handbook: A Practical Guide to Discussing Relationship Abuse." Written in collaboration with the Family Violence Prevention Fund, the booklet helps women and concerned bystanders reach out to friends, family and coworkers they suspect may be involved in an abusive relationship.

In addition to two new limited-edition items for 1999, a satchel-style handbag and a T-shirt. The company also produced another television PSA with SS+K. Featuring the voice of actor Susan Sarandon, the PSA asks viewers to reach out to women they believe may be in violent relationships and order "A Woman's Handbook" for guidance.

The company was also one of two title sponsors of the first-ever "New York Walks to End Domestic Violence" to show public support for domestic violence prevention. Liz Claiborne not only donated funding to cover a significant portion of the walk, but also contributed a logo design, a Web site, T-shirts for all walk participants and the opportunity to use Liz Claiborne and Elisabeth stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as points of registration. Several thousand participants turned out to walk on October 24th, 1999 in Riverside Park in Manhattan.
