Liz Claiborne Inc. Scores a Home Run for Domestic Violence Awareness
with New Fundraising Baseball-Style T-Shirt

Funds Raised Will Benefit National Domestic Violence Organizations

NEW YORK, NY - (May 13, 2003) – Liz Claiborne Inc. will jump-start year 12 of its domestic violence education and awareness campaign with a steadfast message and a limited edition fundraising T-shirt. Displaying the powerful words 'love is not abuse', the Liz Claiborne-designed, baseball-style T-shirt will encourage the public to speak out against relationship violence. Profits from sales will benefit national domestic violence prevention organizations.

The cotton T-shirt will be sold for $12 on the leading women's Web site, iVillage.com, beginning in October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The T-shirt will also be available by calling 1-800-449-STOP (7867).

"For 12 years, Liz Claiborne has been committed to educating the public about violence against women," says Jane Randel, vice president of corporate communications at Liz Claiborne and director of Women's Work. "This year's T-shirt and the 'love is not abuse' message continue our mission of raising awareness of the issue."

The pink T-shirt features cherry-red, three-quarter length sleeves and an emblazoned red, "brush-stroked" heart on the front. The campaign message, "love is not abuse", appears inside the heart in white typeface, and the back of the T-shirt displays the call-to-action: "reject relationship violence". Made of 100% cotton, the baseball-style T-shirt is available in four sizes: Extra Small, Medium, Large and Women's Size 3.

Profits from online and 800 number sales will benefit the Family Violence Prevention Fund, a San Francisco-based, national non-profit organization focusing on domestic violence prevention, education and public policy reform, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline, a counseling and information resource for victims of domestic violence available toll-free, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

Working to Create a Society Intolerant of Abuse

Since 1991, Liz Claiborne has been addressing the issue of domestic violence through a comprehensive education and awareness campaign. Efforts have included billboards, television and radio announcements, posters, brochures, campus workshops and partnerships with local retailers and community groups. Each year, the program strives to reach different audiences with focused anti-abuse messages. Initiatives have been aimed at parents, teens, women, men, college students and corporate America.

As part of the company's educational outreach, Liz Claiborne has produced a series of four handbooks, each with valuable information and resources on domestic violence. The content-rich handbooks—authored by experts on the issue of domestic violence—target women, teenagers, parents of pre-teens and parents of teenagers; and each strives to open a dialogue about developing and maintaining healthy relationships. More than 700,000 handbooks have been distributed since the first one was published in 1998.

Handbooks can be ordered by calling 1-800-449-STOP (7867). To view and download copies of the free booklets and to learn more about Liz Claiborne's anti-abuse initiatives, please visit www.lizclaiborne.com/loveisnotabuse.
