Sterling Silver Link Bracelet Debuts As New Fundraising Product From Liz Claiborne Inc.'s "Women's Work" Program
Leading Corporate Program Against Relationship Abuse to Raise
Funds for the Family Violence Prevention Fund and Local Groups
NEW YORK, NY - (September 26, 1997) - Continuing its national campaign to encourage people to speak out against relationship violence and to raise funds for domestic violence prevention organizations, Liz Claiborne Inc. is introducing two new limited-edition items -- a sterling silver link bracelet and a T-shirt -- both bearing the message, "Love is not abuse." Profits from the sales of the bracelets and t-shirts sold through 1-800-449-STOP will be donated to the Family Violence Prevention Fund, Liz Claiborne's national charity partner.
In addition, Liz Claiborne specialty stores nationwide are partnering with local domestic violence service agencies in their communities. These organizations will receive profits from sales of the limited edition items, available in all 114 Liz Claiborne, Elisabeth and Claiborne stores during October, in honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The 7-inch sterling silver bracelet ($25) is engraved on its toggle closure with the mutually reinforcing messages "Love is not Abuse" on one side and "Abuse is not Love" on the other. The new 1997 Women's Work® commemorative T-shirt ($10) features an original design on the front and a call-to-action on the back, encouraging people to speak out, get involved and stop relationship abuse.
Charity Shopping Day
In conjunction with the campaign, Liz Claiborne Inc. will hold its fourth annual Charity Shopping Day on Thursday, October 23rd when all the Liz Claiborne, Elisabeth, and Claiborne Stores nationwide will donate 10 percent of the total day's sales to their local domestic violence charity partners.
Women's Work® Campaign
Through its Women's Work program, Liz Claiborne Inc. has been addressing the issue of domestic violence for over six years. The program's awareness and education campaign has included billboards, radio announcements, posters, brochures, campus workshops and partnerships with local retailers and community groups. Last year, the company worked with its advertising agency Gotham, Inc. to develop public service announcements (PSAs) positioning high profile college football players as icons of masculinity who discouraged men from participating in relationship violence or tolerating it in others. Liz Claiborne Inc. is continuing this cutting-edge approach by producing a series of radio PSAs using well-known male recording artists to reinforce the message that men should speak out against relationship violence.
