Economy & Teen Dating Abuse Press Conference:
On June 10th Liz Claiborne Inc. and the Family Violence Prevention Fund held a press conference in Washington, DC to announce the findings from the “Impact of the Economy and Parent/Teen Dialogue on Dating Relationships and Abuse” survey. Survey findings revealed that American teens from across the country are experiencing alarmingly high levels of abuse in their dating relationships and the economy appears to have made it worse.
Compelling testimony from parents, teen survivors, and other advocates resulted in significant awareness and media coverage for this issue.
After the press conference, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Our own MADE co-founder, Ann Burke provided moving testimony. If you would like to access Ann’s testimony, click here.
The press conference was an enormous success and we want to express our gratitude to the following MADE members for their participation:
- Bill and Michele Mitchell, Maryland MADE State Action Leaders
- Kim Davidson, New York MADE State Action Leader
- Carolyn Murray, Maryland MADE State Action Leader
