Event Ideas

You can make a difference by hosting an It's Time to Talk Day event in your community. For the past three years cities and organizations from around the country held various programs to raise awareness of the issue. View events from 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Some suggestions of events that might be appropriate for your local area include:

Schools
- Set aside five minutes in homeroom to discuss the issue of dating violence. Information about the subject is available at www.loveisnotabuse.com and www.breakthecycle.org.
- Place posters in the halls providing information. Posters can be downloaded from our event toolkit.
- Invite a local domestic violence organization to set up a table in the cafeteria or hallway to distribute information about dating violence.

- Host a school-wide assembly, inviting outside speakers to address the issue of dating violence.
- Create a visual statement against dating abuse. Consider a poster contest or other project that can be displayed at school.
- Encourage your local middle and high schools to utilize the Love Is Not Abuse curriculum on teen dating violence.
